Peter Rockholz, MSSW, LCSW

Peter Rockholz has over forty-five years of experience in the behavioral health field, specializing in substance use disorder treatment in various settings. He has worked as a clinician, administrator and researcher within several organizations in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York City – primarily providing residential treatment services for adolescents and adults with serious substance use and co-occurring mental disorders. Mr. Rockholz has also worked as a national consultant, during the past twenty years, providing technical assistance and training in 30 states -- primarily for State addictions, criminal and juvenile justice and private treatment organizations, individual correctional institutions and the U.S. Departments of Justice and Health and Human Services. He served as Deputy Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services from 2005-2009, under appointment by Governor M. Jodi Rell, serving as the Connecticut Single State Authority (SSA), and State Opioid Treatment Authority (SOTA), among other roles. He is a nationally-recognized expert in the areas of State systems assessment and development, adolescent treatment, therapeutic communities (TC), and institutional culture assessment and change. Mr. Rockholz received his Master of Science degree in Social Work from Columbia University in 1978. He is a licensed clinical social worker, a former faculty member at the Yale School of Medicine and current faculty member at Columbia University School of Social Work. He has authored numerous articles, papers and chapters, and speaks at local, regional and national venues.
